In today’s Irish Independent, Gravitas patient Pat Gibbs describes how he feels ‘as happy as Larry’ after losing over nine stone following a gastric bypass. Dubliner Pat used to weigh 26½st and suffered from severe diabetes and dangerously high blood pressure which frustrated him and made him unhappy. In the Granada special, Isle of Man resident Martin Blackburn describes how life was ‘pretty miserable’ before a duodenal switch procedure performed by Gravitas surgeon David Kerrigan helped him lose 75% of his body weight in just two years.

Gravitas has lowered the threshold at which it offers gastric bands for people who are obese. It means patients with a body mass index (BMI) of between 30 and 35 will now be eligible for surgery at Gravitas clinics throughout UK and Ireland, including the Blackrock in Dublin.
